Dear Sir,

I want to draw attention to a dangerous precedent that has just been approved by the United States Supreme Court.

It is now legal for a police officer to handcuff and arrest a motor vehicle operator for a seat belt violation.

This is not a criminal offense. And opens the way to abuse by police officers for mischief and worse.

In a court of law, even if the motor vehicle operator had been wearing a seat belt, who will the judge believe, the motorist or the police officer?

This is very dangerous. A review of police abuse concerning minorities and anyone demonstrates the arrogant and sometimes illegal behaviour of those whose job it is to protect, not persecute citizens.

I hope you can alert Americans to this serious infringement of privacy and protection from police error, bad judgment and worse.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
A Concerned Worried Citizen
