Not so minor Y2K bugs. Troy, MI (where my office is located) has been quietly putting stop signs wrapped in black plastic at every intersection in the city that has a stoplight. You see, several years ago they purchased a state-of-the-art computerized traffic control system, complete with traffic sensors and predictive algorithms, the better to manage the flow of traffic. Item #1: the system is not Y2K compliant, so the officials are pretty much 100% certain the traffic lights won't work. Item #2: the damned system works for shit in the first place, so it was a *complete* waste of money at this point. Item #3: hence the stop signs, for when (not if) the traffic lights go out. Apparently a few other municipalities around here have copied Troy on the covered stop sign issue, if for no better reason than to keep up with the Joneses. Troy is the only city with the Y2K problem that I know of. Regards, -scott anderson baal@msen.com
