Eighth In A Series
Bestweld 90/10 and 70/30 "Deck Drains" are now available with 5083 and 5086 aluminum weld rings for installation in aluminum decks. Cast aluminum drains are failing at an alarming rate after only minimal service. The porous aluminum castings are highly susceptible to severe corrosion in salt water. Bestweld’s "wrought" (formed from sheet, plate, pipe or tube) 90/10 and 70/30 deck drains do not crack after welding. Bestweld’s "wrought" design eliminates "porosity" and "tramp element" problems inherent to castings. Utilizing tri-metallic marine bar for transition from 90/10 or 70/30 to 5083/5086 aluminum, ship repairers can now install Bestweld copper/nickel deck drains with aluminum welding rings in aluminum decks. Tri-metallic marine bar consisting of explosion bonded carbon steel, titanium and aluminum is not susceptible to galvanic corrosion. Explosion bonded carbon steel/titanium/aluminum bar has been historically used to attach aluminum super-structure to steel hulls and is currently approved for use with "counter measure washdown nozzles" and deck tie downs. Bestweld’s copper/nickel deck drains with aluminum rings significantly extend "life cycle" and minimize the number and variety of deck drains needed in supply inventories.
