I propose an experiment of grand magnitude. What should we call it? How about ... Bergson Smurgson?
I will arrange for a digital master of a Spirit Experiment session to be shipped to you along with a 4-track tape deck, microphone, headphones, and instructions on how to make it work. You will then attempt to enter into the same jam session. You know what I am saying? To actually be jamming as though you were with us.
What will you play? Well, having a bunch of stuff (any traditional instruments are fine, but don't be afraid to use your imagination. We have used children's toys, a ratchet, and a macaroni box to name a few) around is a good idea. It wont hurt to pick a location that you are comfortable in ... and whether you record alone or with others is up to you.
After you are set-up, you will play along as you listen for the first time.
What will this prove? Having conducted the experiment many times, I am sure that at least one of you will be able to connect. And when you do, it will be difficult to say that past experience was an influence, however; if you keep the notion firmly planted in your heart that past experience is necessary, you are destined to fail.
Therefor, my hypotheses is: can you do anything ... if you don't stop yourself?
So, what do you say? Are you up for it?
