CENTER for BRACHIAL PLEXUS and PERIPHERAL NERVE DISORDERS
Dr. Andrew Price is a member of a team of doctors and therapists who have a brachial plexus program that is conducted at the Roosevelt Hospital on 59th Street and 10th Avenue in Manhattan, an affiliate of Columbia Medical School. The program is staffed by a team consisting of Dr. Price, and orthopedic surgeon; a plastic surgery-trained hand surgeon, Dr. John Grossman; an occupational therapist, Lorna Ramos; a physical therapist, Eileen Malloy; neurophysiologist/neurologists, Drs. Lee and Cohen, and social services. They currently follow approximately 150 patients with obstetric palsy, brachial plexus, and peripheral nerve injuries. We evaluate and follow all our patients with clinical exam and video analysis performed by our specially trained therapists. We perform, WHEN INDICATED, primary exploration of the brachial plexus, neurolysis, nerve grafting, neurotizations, as well as secondary reconstructive procedures. The program provides physical therapy on-site or supervision by a therapist for those out-of-town patients. Social services are available to help with other details. The team has written many chapters in the Hand Clinics of North America, November 1995, edited by Dr. Grossman, which was dedicated to the state-of-the-art treatment of obstetric palsy. Several papers have been and are being presented at national meetings on obstetric palsy. Information or appointments to the center can be obtained by calling 800-668-2778.
