CONCLAVE XVIII REGISTRATION
MEMBER INFORMATION
Here are some basic facts which may help you determine whether or not you want to attend this year's conclave.
Some of the information may be useful to those who have already registered.
First of all, Conclave XVIII has been designed around book-related activities. From the opening dinner on Friday evening until the conclusion of the Annual Banquet on Sunday evening,
all planned activities are book-related. The optional trip on Monday will offer an opportunity to see a little of Vermont, and is pretty much non-book related.
The schedule itself is posted elsewhere on these pages. Here, then, are some additional facts.
The cost to attend the Conclave itself is $170.00. This fee includes all meals starting Friday evening, with the exception of the mid-day lunch on Saturday and Sunday.
Conclave XVIII will take place at the Holiday Inn Centre of Vermont, in Rutland, Vermont. The Inn is conveniently located near the intersection of US Routes 4 and 7, on the southern edge of Rutland.
The Inn is set well back from the highways, and is nestled in the edge of a nearby forest area, with lots of trees and tasteful landscaping. The Inn staff is very experienced in assisting with conferences such as ours, and this should contribute greatly to the success of the Conclave.
Although the Inn is secluded and boasts fine eating facilities, there are stores and restaurants just a few minutes' walk away.
There will be shuttle vans available and we will be meeting incoming trains and planes to assist you in getting to the Inn.
By road, Rutland is about 2 hours from Albany, New York; three hours from Montreal, Canada, and 3-1/2 hours from Boston. There are shuttle flights from Boston (one way is somewhere around $125.00, I believe).
There is lovely Amtrak train service directly from New York City to Rutland twice a day. This is a beautiful ride; there are no changes of train; the ride is 5-1/2 hours along the banks of the Hudson River in New York State,
and then into the hills of Vermont. Rutland even boats a new Amtrak station, and our trains have a baggage car available to assist in moving larger luggage. There are light lunches available on the train.
Conclave registration forms have been mailed in the MBS Newsletter, but you may register by sending a check to the following address:
Jon Mayo, Post Office Box 74, North Clarendon, VT 05759.
Fees are: Conclave registration and meals as outlined above: $170.00 per person
Book Fair tables for those who wish to exhibit are $35.00 each
Box lunches for those who wish to exhibit at the Book Fair are $15.00 each.
The fair runs from Sunday morning through the afternoon; exhibitors can take a chance at the hotel restaurant or purchase a box lunch.
The exhibit area will be closed from noon to 1 p.m.
A tour of the Manchester, Vermont area is offered as an option on Monday; this includes a bus ride, a visit to Hildene,
the ancestral home of Robert Todd Lincoln, Abraham Lincoln's grandson, a box lunch, and an opportunity to spend a couple of hours in Manchester visiting the Jelly Mill,
a multi-floored building which offers for sale an amazing variety of unusual products seldom seen in other stores, plus some time to check out some of Manchester's variety of factory outlet stores,
for which the town has become well-known.
