March 9-13 AO/ASIF Foot and Ankle Course

This course is designed to acquaint the surgeon with advances in operative treatment of fractures and dislocations about the foot and ankle. The objectives of this Course are to focus on all aspects of the diagnosis, treatment and subsequent management of these injuries, including the associated complications. The technical aspects of both hard and soft tissue surgery and the use of implants and the standard AO techniques will be taught.

Basic Course - Designed to provide an understanding of: How the interrelationship between the following can influence the process of caring for an injured patient; the biology of bone healing, the nature of damage to the soft tissues, the pattern of the fracture, and the response to surgical intervention; the various reduction and fixation modes available to achieve different and appropriate degrees of fracture stability, together with the complications which can accompany them.

Advanced Course - Designed to: Provide the participant with the latest advances in principles concerning the treatment of complex fractures; enable the participant to further his/her Basic Course experience and address the treatment of articular fractures, complex diaphyseal fractures and fracture complications.

AO/ASIF Maxillofacial Course - Is designed to teach the participant to: Be able to apply the fundamentals of fracture healing to maxillofacial surgery, including biomechanics and histology; incorporate patient selection and preoperative planning considerations with treatment techniques used in maxillofacial surgery: discern the resolution of complications and intraoperative difficulties related to maxillofacial surgery, and to apply current concepts of polytrauma care as they relate to maxillofacial surgery.

Spine Basic Course - Is designed to teach the participant to: Understand and apply the principles and indications for the Universal Spinal System and the use of anterior/posterior plates at the cervical spine; know the dangers and complications of internal fixation of the spine and how to avoid them.

Spine Advanced Course - This course will teach: Fixation techniques in spinal surgery for deformities, degenerative spine disease and other spinal disorders; how to address complex spine problems and decision-making surgery, elaborated in groups or expert panels; understanding of diagnostic problems and more about alternative treatments.
