Course Description:
The Course is intended for instructional training in the operative treatment of fractures, nonunions, osteotomies, and facial reconstruction involving the mandible, maxilla, and midface according to AO/ASIF principles and techniques.
The Course is open to attending physicians and residents in Oral and Maxillofacial, Otolaryngology-Head and Neck, and Plastic and Reconstructive and other surgical specialities involved with stable internal fixation.
Lectures by distinguished surgeons will be combined with demonstrations, video tapes, discussions and practical exercises. A "hands-on" approach to learning will be emphasized.

Course Objectives:
At the conclusion of this Course, the participant should be able to:
1. Describe the principles of stable internal fixation as outlined by the Association for the Study of Internal Fixation
2. Define the biological and mechanical aspects of fracture healing.
3. Discuss the problems, complications and intraoperative difficulties that can result from internal fixation.
4. Describe fracture classification, preoperative planning methods and outcome analysis.
5. Apply techniques in complex fractures through practical exercises on artificial bones.
Accreditation:
The AO North America is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to sponsor medical education for physicians.
Credit Hours:
The AO North America designates this continuing medical education activity for approximately 14.0 credit hours in Category 1 of the Physician's Recognition Award of the American Medical Association. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.

The FDA has stated that it is the responsibility of the physician to determinbe the clearance status of each device he/she wishes to use in clinical practice. Faculty are advised that should their presentations or instructions during the Course include any off-label/experimental use or application, they are to make this known to the audience whenever possible.
