Scholz Homes, the predecessor corporation of Scholz Design was
founded in 1946 as a local home building operation in Toledo, Ohio.
From the beginning, the imaginative, innovative and marketable
homes designed and built by Scholz attracted the attention of
architects and builders from across the nation.
During the fifties Scholz grew to become the second largest home prefabricator in the United States specializing in luxury homes. Later, Scholz diversified into luxury apartments, condominiums and modular housing. By the late sixties, this continued success attracted Inland Steel to acquire Scholz in 1969. Scholz then operated as a subsidiary of Inland until the mid 1980's. A decision by Inland's management to refocus on its core business caused Scholz and its subsidiaries to be offered for sale. A Scholz home builder, Jes J. Dall of Greenwich, Connecticut and Joseph C. Grasso, an architect from Pennsylvania, purchased Scholz Design's intellictual property from Inland Steel and restructured the firm as a national home design and marketing operation for registered custom home builders. The company was revitalized. Scholz designed showhomes began being featured in such prominent national magazines as House Beautiful and Better Homes and Gardens. |
